Sobell House Hospice provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to adults living in Oxfordshire with a life-limiting illness, and support to their family and friends.

Founded in 1976, Sobell House was one of the UK’s earliest modern hospices to exist. Since opening our doors, our building, services, and team have expanded, but our mission to enrich the lives of our patients and those who love and care for them remains the same. We help people to live well for as long as they can, and, when the time comes, help them have a ‘good death’.

The heart of our care takes place at our hospice in Oxford, which is home to our inpatient unit, Living Well service, lymphoedema clinic and outpatients’ clinic, but most of our care is provided within Oxford’s hospitals or to patients at home.

We aim to ensure that excellent palliative and end-of-life care is available to everybody in our community who needs it. Every year, we care for over 4,000 people and their loved ones.

Sobell House is jointly funded by the NHS and Sobell House Hospice Charity.

As part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, our teams operate between Sobell House Hospice and Katharine House Hospice in Banbury.
